Night Flight over LA

Tonight I took a private charter flight over LA, Santa Monica, LAX, Dodger Stadium, Long Beach and up the coast. It was a beuatiful sight to see the city I live in everyday and love so much from a totally different perspective.

Adversity

Do not fear the winds of adversity. Remember: A kite rises against the wind rather than with it.

The Journey

“Life is an experimental journey undertaken involuntarily. It is a journey of the spirit through the material world and, since it is the spirit that travels, it is the spirit that is experienced. That is why there exist contemplative souls who have lived more intensely, more widely, more tumultuously than others who have lived their lives purely externally. The end result is what matters.”

~Fernando Pessoa (The Book of Disquiet)

The Path

No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.

The Tower

Filed under oddities: What was this thing? What purpose did it have? Why was it in the middle of nowhere? It almost looked like some kind of testing facility the way it was surrounded by barbed wire fencing. Answers to these and other questions, I’ll never know, but it was an intersting subject to shoot nonetheless. I love urban decay. To me it can be somewhat peaceful, and unsettling at the same time. Remnants of days gone by. One thing is for sure. This was one interesting trip!

Home Sweet Home

During my journey across the Salton Sea on my way to Bombay Beach, I encountered this desolate & lonely homestead. At least the remains of one. Inside was torn asunder and ravaged with age. The place was oddly quiet and peaceful as I stood inside trying to get a sense of the lives that once occupied this now forsaken plot of land.

Alas, the sun was fast setting into the shadows, so I had to leave this forgotten shell so I could catch the last rays of the sun dancing along Bombay Beach. As I walked away from the place, the eerie silence was broken by the buffeting wind blowing across the run-down hulk. It was a nice little pit-stop on what was a memorable day indeed…
