The CERN Computer Center. WHOA! Insane!

From the Strobist’s (I love this guy’s work) Flickr stream detailing his visit to CERN. (For some reason my site posting tools won’t let me link to the page so here is the web addy: http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidhobby/3311616091/in/set-72157614396346749/)

His photo description:

Andras runs a burn-in program at he Computer Center at CERN. The site has 12PB — petabytes, as in 12,000,000,000,000,000 bytes — of online HD storage, and another 34PB of robotically accessible off-line tape storage.

Holy shite! 46PB! OMFG, I can’t even fathom that much data to manage and maintain for this one project! I have much respect for the IT staff that has to maintain and manage this gargantuan datastore!

Here’s his shot of the Tape Library! Daaamn!

From a photography standpoint, David’s work is just awesome and I hope to one day get to be as good as him. I enjoy his style and technique with flash and compostion. His dedication to advancing the art of photography for the rest of us wannabe photogs is admirable. K, nuff arse kissing. He’s good.
